Explanatory notes:
For each Slam, the breakdown gives Murray’s world ranking going into the tournament [in square brackets] as well as the round he reached and the player he fell to, with (in brackets) the opponent’s nationality and ranking at the time and the round that the opponent ultimately reached in the tournament. For crude statistical curiosity, Murray’s ranking is shown in red if he lost to a player that on paper he should not have lost to based purely on the respective rankings i.e. a lower-ranked player. Murray’s ranking is shown in green if he lost to a player above him in the rankings. Similarly, the round Murray reached is coloured red if, theoretically, he should have reached a higher round based on his ranking e.g. a player in the world’s top 16 should reach at least the last 16 (“R16”). The round is coloured green if Murray went as far or further into the tournament than his ranking would imply e.g. being ranked 3 and reaching the last four (semi-final, “SF”).
