When they’re not busy with the 9-to-5, they like to write about sport. These are the quantumofsport authors...
Charles le Roi
Unlike the name suggests, Monsieur Le Roi is neither royal nor francophone. But the moniker does hint at this author’s continental whereabouts (sunny Belgium to be precise). CleR is in fact another of quantumofsport’s Irish contingent, though that does not stop him supporting England at cricket (except when they play Ireland of course). Something of a sporting all-rounder himself on the writing side, Le Roi’s work on tennis rankings suggests that he is one of the team’s closet statos.

Dupin
Taking after the Edgar Allan Poe detective of the same name, our man Dupin loves following up a good lead – combining a literary flair with, by his own admission, decidedly ‘stato’ tendencies. As a keen amateur runner (injuries permitting), athletics is perhaps Dupin’s first love. But he’s often to be found sleuthing around soccer, tennis, and other sports too, with moleskin notepad sheepishly at the ready.

Speedball2
In his youth, Speedball2 was to be found on the north bank at Arsenal, defending the George Graham style to anyone who would listen. Since the renaissance of Beautiful Football, and the move to the plush surroundings of the Emirates, it is with some irony that Speedball2 finds himself something of an armchair supporter, quite literally chowing down on prawn sandwiches. And now denouncing the virtues of the boring 1-0 win in favour of beautiful, flowing football – even at the expense of ultimate success. But most of this author’s thoughts now turn to the bigger issues facing the game rather than the footballing day-to-day. How to make football even more entertaining, and how to stop the paradox of many clubs being seriously in debt despite football never having been richer?

The Worm
There’s nothing like a juicy Test series – not least The Ashes – to get The Worm going. A hardy veteran of many a woeful (and the occasional more positive) England performance, The Worm knows his cricket. Away from leather and willow, you’re most likely to spot him at a lower-league footie ground (Brentford die-hard), or, more glamorously, a Grand Prix. Our annelid friend has also been known to profess an interest in Olympic opening/closing ceremonies, with Seoul ’88 being his personal favourite – and why not! (Seoul, I hear you calling...)

wim
Not a Dutchman missing a capital letter but an Englishman making an abbreviated nod to New Order’s classic 1990 soccer single World in Motion – a title that also hints at this author’s penchant for travelling the globe. Sports-wise, wim is something of a jack-of-all-trades. He is keen on his footie of course. But then there’s tennis too, with a leaning, it would seem, towards the ladies’ game (it’s just that the matches are shorter – ed). Not to mention snooker (a touch of ’80s nostalgia creeping in here perhaps). And, last but not least, Formula 1 (where, based on a couple of go-kart outings over the years, wim still likes to think of himself as the Schumacher That Never Was).
